Fundamental Principles

In order for GAWU to have smooth and successful operations of its systems and also see to it that the underpinning objectives are achieved, the Union has put in place some fundamental guiding principles. These include the following;

  1. Self-organization, united action and solidarity as the essential means for the protection, promotion of trade unions and workers’ rights, including improved wages, job security, health and safety and other working conditions
  2. Education and training as the primary mechanism for equipping workers with the information, knowledge and ideas to defend and promote workers’ rights and interest as well as the national interest and that of the African continent.
  • Gender equality and a gender perspective to all policy issues and activity
  1. The Promotion of international solidarity among workers and their organizations.
