This project is in collaboration with the Danish Trade Union Development Agency (DTDA) from Denmark. The project’s focus is on Decent Work and Child labour and Trafficking in Ghana with its concentration on the Lake Volta. The project span is for four years.
This project seeks to create awareness and sensitization within and around communities in the Lake Volta on Child Labour and the creation of Child Labour Free Zones (CLFZs). The project aim is to revamp the Torkor model developed by GAWU years ago in Kpando -Torkor to ensure its sustainability.
GAWU has successfully implemented some project activities in the Kpando- Torkor district of the Volta Region such as meetings with the District Assembly, Media houses and communities. One of the meetings has produced the unionization of community members as GAWU members with elected Local Union Executives in place. The project has also identified new communities in Abotoase in the Bekwai District in the Oti region for the replication of the Torkor model in the creation of the Child Labour Free zone.
